He played 1,092 games, 882 of them at shortstop. Along the way he was part of seven AL pennant winners (1957-58, 1960-64) and three World Champions (1958, 1961-1962). After his days on the field ended, Kubek took to the broadcast booth and became a respected color commentator who teamed with such play-by-play men as Curt Gowdy, Jim Simpson, Bob Costas and Joe Garagiola. He also spent five years in the early 1990's calling Yankees' games on MSG. Curt Gowdy was a legendary sports announcer whose career spanned radio and television, as well as baseball, football and basketball, and he spent years as the host of the TV program, The American Sportsman. Gowdy was inducted into more than 20 Halls of Fame, including the National Baseball Hall of Fame (as a recipient of the Ford Frick Award in 1984). He passed away in 2006.
